Key West High School Music Scholarship Entries
Lillian Andrew
Hi! My name is Lillian Andrew, and I will be pursuing technical theatre in college. I have done backstage roles such as stage management, production management, and directing all throughout high school. However, I have also done performances on-stage with dancing and acting. I have done these performances through the KWHS drama club, the KWHS theatre class, Williams Hall, and Waterfront Playhouse. I hope you enjoy my video submission!
Patrick Patrias
In the video, I will briefly talk about myself, then about what the clips in the video are about.

Il Carnevale di Venezia is a 9th-century virtuoso flute solo that highlights a blend of technique and Romantic-era characteristics. It’s rated by the Florida Band Master Association as one of the more difficult pieces, with it being rated a 7, the highest it can go. I was introduced to this piece by my flute hero, James Galway, whom I listened to extensively while learning it. My motivation came from Key West High School’s trip to Italy, where I got to see many different forms of art, both musical and physical.
The title of this piece, “Il Carnevale di Venezia,” was inspired by the historic festival held in Venice, Italy. The tradition began in the Middle Ages, in 1162, as a way to celebrate the Republic of Venice’s victory over the Patriarchate of Aquileia. It would later be used in the 15th and 16th centuries during the Renaissance era as a display of art and performances. The masks that my accompanist, Juju Strunk, and I are wearing are similar to those worn at the festival.
